ITA Airways has launched its first-ever direct flight between Rome Fiumicino Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport, opening a new transatlantic connection between Italy and Texas.
The new service marks a strategic expansion of the airline’s North American network, now covering nine destinations.
Strengthening Links Between Italy And Texas
The route connects Rome with Houston, the fourth-largest city in the United States and a major global hub for the energy and aerospace sectors.
Until now, Houston had no nonstop flights to Rome, making the new service a significant addition for both business and leisure travel.
The route is expected to support corporate travel, tourism and visiting friends and relatives traffic between the two regions.
Expanding North American Network
Houston joins ITA Airways’ growing network across North America, which includes destinations such as New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago and Toronto.
The airline is positioning the United States as its most important market outside Italy, with continued investment in long-haul routes.
Modern Aircraft And Increased Frequency
The service is operated by the Airbus A330-900, part of ITA Airways’ next-generation fleet designed for long-haul efficiency and passenger comfort.
Flights will initially operate three times per week, increasing to five weekly frequencies from June 2026.
Gateway To Italy And Europe
Passengers travelling from Houston will benefit from onward connections via Rome to destinations across Italy and Europe.
The route strengthens Rome’s role as a key hub, linking North America with the airline’s domestic and regional network.
Strategic Growth For ITA Airways
The launch reflects ITA Airways’ broader strategy to expand its long-haul footprint and capture demand in high-value markets.
By connecting a major US economic centre with Italy, the airline aims to strengthen its position as a bridge between North America and Europe while supporting economic and cultural ties between the two regions.
