World’s Best Airports For Food Revealed as Rome, Munich and Heathrow Shine

Airports are no longer just transit points – they are becoming destinations in their own right, where travellers swap rushed snacks for curated dining experiences. A newly released global ranking highlights the world’s best airports for food and drink, with several major European hubs earning top spots.

Among the standout performers is Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome, which ranks fifth globally. Italy’s busiest airport has won over passengers with its focus on authentic cuisine, offering a taste of the country’s culinary identity even before travellers leave the terminal.

Close behind, Munich Airport in Munich takes sixth place, thanks to a diverse selection of around 60 dining options. Travellers can move seamlessly from traditional Bavarian experiences to modern concepts, whether stopping at the popular Backstube Wünsche bakery, enjoying a beer at Airbräu, or dining at Cloud 7 – a venue known for its runway views paired with elevated cuisine.

In eighth place, Heathrow Airport in London reflects the capital’s global food scene. The airport blends international fast food with premium offerings, including venues such as Le Café Louis Vuitton and Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food Market. Traditional British pubs serving craft beer add a local touch, creating a mix that appeals to both quick-stop travellers and those seeking a more leisurely experience.

Rounding out the list, Istanbul Airport in Istanbul ranks ninth, offering approximately 65 food concepts. The airport showcases both international brands and local favourites, from Saltbae Burger to Simit Sarayı and pide specialist Pidem, reflecting Turkey’s rich culinary culture.

The ranking highlights a broader shift in aviation: airports are increasingly investing in food and beverage as a core part of the passenger experience. With longer dwell times and rising expectations, terminals are evolving into lifestyle spaces where dining plays a central role.

For travellers, it means one thing – arriving early at the airport is no longer a chore, but an opportunity.
