A quiet but meaningful upgrade is rolling out across Vueling flights – and passengers may notice it the moment they switch on airplane mode. The airline has officially launched a new onboard entertainment platform that allows travelers to stream movies, series and more directly to their own devices, completely free of charge.
The move marks another step in Vueling’s push to modernize the short-haul flying experience, where seatback screens are rare but digital expectations continue to grow.
Streaming without Wi-Fi
What sets this system apart is how it works. Unlike traditional inflight streaming services that depend on internet connectivity, Vueling’s new platform operates through a direct connection to the aircraft’s onboard server.
That means passengers don’t need Wi-Fi or mobile data to access content. Instead, they simply connect to the onboard network and open the portal on their phone, tablet or laptop.
The service is already available on more than half of Vueling’s fleet, particularly on aircraft equipped with Viasat technology, and is expected to expand further.
Movies, series and more in your pocket
At launch, the content library includes 18 films suitable for a wide range of audiences and 23 episodes spanning 12 different television series. The catalogue will be refreshed seasonally, ensuring repeat passengers see new options over time.
But the platform goes beyond entertainment. Travelers can also access a real-time 3D interactive map, allowing them to follow their flight path and track progress throughout the journey.
In addition, the onboard portal integrates practical features such as the inflight menu and shop, making it easier to browse food, drinks and products available during the flight.
Planning your trip before landing
One of the more forward-looking elements is the integration with GetYourGuide, giving passengers the option to explore tours, activities and experiences at their destination while still in the air.
The portal also includes information about Vueling’s route network, sustainability initiatives and customer support services – turning it into a broader digital hub rather than just a streaming tool.
Part of a broader connectivity push
The new entertainment system complements Vueling’s existing connectivity offering, which already includes Wi-Fi on much of its fleet. Passengers typically receive 15 minutes of free internet access, with the option to purchase more.
By combining onboard streaming with limited connectivity, the airline is aligning with a growing trend in aviation: delivering a more connected, personalized experience without significantly increasing costs.
As short-haul carriers compete not just on price but on passenger experience, small upgrades like this are becoming increasingly important. For travelers, it means one simple change – flights that feel a little shorter, thanks to content that’s now just a tap away.
