A new chapter in Caribbean luxury travel is quietly taking shape off the coast of Belize. Six Senses has confirmed plans to open its first overwater resort in the Americas, bringing the brand’s signature blend of sustainability and high-end design to a private island setting by 2028.
The project will rise on Emerald Caye, a secluded island that promises the kind of exclusivity typically associated with destinations in the Maldives or Southeast Asia. But this time, the experience will be much closer for travelers from North and South America.
At the heart of the development are overwater accommodations – a first for the region under the Six Senses name. These will be complemented by just 16 private residences, with prices starting at $3.75 million, positioning the resort firmly in the ultra-luxury segment.
A private island built around experience
The design of Six Senses Belize is centered on open-air living and a deep connection to its surroundings. Dining will play a central role, with the All-Day Dining Village offering a series of beachfront spaces designed for relaxed, immersive meals throughout the day.
Another focal point is the Longhouse, a multi-level venue that combines a café, deli, wine shop, restaurant and bar into a single social hub. It’s a concept that reflects the brand’s approach to blending casual elegance with curated culinary experiences.
For sunset, the resort leans into drama. The Sunset Bar will feature a swim-up concept with sunken lounges and suspended nets over the water, creating a setting designed as much for atmosphere as for cocktails.
Wellness rooted in nature
As with all Six Senses properties, wellness is not an add-on but a core pillar. The Six Senses Spa Belize is being envisioned as a “village-style sanctuary,” woven into the natural landscape.
Guests can expect sand pathways winding through mangroves and lagoons, leading to treatment rooms that open out toward the ocean. The concept emphasizes immersion rather than separation – a space where the environment becomes part of the therapy itself.
Expanding a global luxury footprint
Six Senses, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, is already known for its overwater villas in destinations like the Maldives and Vietnam. Properties such as Six Senses Laamu, Six Senses Kanuhura and Six Senses Ninh Van Bay have helped define the brand’s reputation for remote, design-led escapes.
Bringing that concept to Belize marks a strategic expansion into the Americas, where demand for experiential, sustainability-driven luxury travel continues to grow.
With its mix of private island seclusion, overwater living and nature-focused design, Six Senses Belize is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated resort openings of the decade – and a sign that the Caribbean’s luxury landscape is entering a new era.
