Six Senses has signed an agreement with Patience Capital Group (PCG) to open Six Senses Myoko, a mountain hotel and branded residences nestled at the foothills of Mount Myoko within Japan’s scenic Suginohara ski resort.
Designed as a year-round destination that harmonizes with its natural surroundings, Six Senses Myoko will embody a vision rooted in cultural sensitivity, thoughtful architecture, and emotional hospitality.
A Destination with Depth
Myoko Kogen is renowned for its pristine slopes, abundant snowfall, and serene hot springs. With an average of 13.4 meters of snow annually, it offers one of Japan’s longest ski runs at 8.5 kilometers and its highest vertical drop at 1,124 meters. Beyond the winter months, its lush trails, waterfalls, and vibrant autumn foliage make it a haven for outdoor exploration and spiritual reflection.
The property will feature 57 guest rooms and suites, many with private onsens, alongside 21 branded residences that reinterpret alpine living with contemporary sophistication. Two restaurants and a bar will serve seasonal menus showcasing regional ingredients, while a boutique will offer bespoke fitting services.
A central village will create a lively year-round hub, bringing together dining, local crafts, wellness, and artistic experiences that celebrate Myoko’s community spirit and craftsmanship.
Architecture that Breathes with the Landscape
The project is being led by acclaimed architects Kengo Kuma and Kume Sekkei, whose design approach centers on the concept of “Golden Wind” – a poetic evocation of sunlight and air flowing across terraced rice fields. The architecture will blend natural materials and fluid lines to reflect the rhythm of the seasons, transforming the foothills into a harmonious, living landscape.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project. True to the Six Senses ethos, the development integrates eco-conscious operations, energy efficiency, and community engagement as part of its long-term design and guest experience.
A New Benchmark for Mountain Wellness
Wellness will take center stage at Six Senses Myoko. The resort’s spa will include eight treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities, and private onsens. Guests will be guided by in-house wellness experts and visiting practitioners offering personalized programs for relaxation, recovery, and holistic well-being.
A Regenerative Vision for Myoko Kogen
For Patience Capital Group, the project forms part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate Myoko Kogen as an inspiring mountain destination that attracts visitors year-round while creating meaningful opportunities for the local community.
Located just three hours by car or two hours by train from Tokyo, Six Senses Myoko is set to begin construction in April 2026.
The new property reflects IHG’s purposeful expansion of the Six Senses brand following its 2019 acquisition. Today, Six Senses operates 27 resorts across 22 countries, with 38 additional properties in development, each carefully selected to embody the brand’s DNA of sustainability, emotional connection, and timeless design – from tropical islands to urban sanctuaries and now, the Japanese Alps.
