Dalata to open Maldron Hotel Kensington in London by 2029

Dalata Hotel Group is continuing its expansion in the UK capital with plans to open a new Maldron-branded property in Kensington by 2029, marking the group’s seventh hotel in London.

The upcoming Maldron Hotel Kensington will feature 370 bedrooms and will be located in a converted office building adjacent to Olympia London, one of the city’s most important venues for large-scale exhibitions and international conferences.

The four-star hotel will transform currently vacant office space into a modern hospitality destination designed to serve the thousands of global visitors who travel to Olympia London each year. Plans for the development include a restaurant, bar, business centre and gym, creating a full-service offering for both business and leisure travellers.

The building itself will be completely repurposed for hospitality use, aligning with Dalata’s strategy of developing hotels in high-demand urban locations close to major event venues and transport links.

Sustainability is also a central component of the project. Maldron Hotel Kensington will operate as an all-electric building and incorporate energy-efficient heat pump technology along with additional green design features. The development aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification, one of the leading sustainability standards for buildings in Europe.

Dalata’s London presence has grown steadily in recent years. The Irish-founded hospitality group opened its first Maldron hotel in the city in 2023 after acquiring a property in Finsbury Park for £44.3 million, introducing the brand to the London market.

The company itself underwent a major corporate shift last year when it was acquired by Swedish hotel property company Pandox in a £1.2 billion deal. Following the acquisition, it was announced that Scandic Hotels would operate Dalata’s 55 hotels across central locations in the UK and Ireland.

The portfolio includes 30 owned hotels, 11 leased properties and three managed hotels. Under the agreement, Scandic Hotels operates the properties through long-term revenue-based lease arrangements that include guaranteed minimum income levels and shared investment commitments – a model that forms the foundation of Pandox’s asset management strategy.

With the planned opening of Maldron Hotel Kensington, Dalata’s footprint in London will continue to expand alongside the transformation of Olympia London, reinforcing the area as a growing hub for international business events and hospitality.
