Travelers planning a trip to Iran will now face stricter entry requirements. The country has changed its visa policy, making it impossible to apply directly at the consulate or through the electronic visa system. From now on, all applications must go through Iranian travel agencies or their official partners.
The change is a major setback for independent travelers. Until recently, tourists could submit their visa applications on their own without involving third parties. Under the new rules, this option is no longer available, and booking hotels in Iran must also be done through local agencies.
What’s striking is that Timatic — the international database used by airlines during check-in and boarding — has not yet reflected the new regulations.
This leaves travelers in a confusing situation: the new rules have been announced, but official resources still show outdated information. Tourists considering a trip to Iran should prepare for potential complications and confirm the latest requirements with tour operators.
