Two Iranian airports have reportedly been struck in a fresh escalation of regional hostilities, with local and Israeli media claiming a civilian passenger aircraft was destroyed.
According to Israel’s Yediot News and Iran’s Sabereen News agency, strikes targeted Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran and Bushehr Airport in southern Iran.
Mehrabad primarily handles domestic flights within Iran, while Bushehr serves regional routes along the Persian Gulf coast.
Media reports state that a passenger Airbus A319 operated by Iran Air was destroyed in the attack. There has been no immediate independent confirmation regarding casualties or whether the aircraft was in active service at the time.
Iran Air’s Airbus A319 fleet is typically used for short- and medium-haul routes, including domestic services from Tehran to major Iranian cities.
Escalating aviation risks
The reported strikes come amid a broader deterioration in regional security conditions, which have already led to widespread airspace restrictions across the Middle East. Multiple international carriers have suspended flights over Iranian airspace in recent days, citing safety concerns.
