SpaceX’s Starlink has introduced high-speed internet on a long-haul Boeing 777 for the first time, providing connectivity on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to London. SpaceX highlighted this milestone, noting it as the largest passenger aircraft equipped with Starlink technology to date.
To mark the occasion, Qatar Airways issued a press release sent directly from the aircraft using the satellite internet connection. The airline announced that by 2025, its entire Boeing 777 fleet would be equipped with Starlink, and passengers would enjoy free internet access.
Qatar Airways also shared a video on YouTube showing a live call between its CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Mir and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, conducted mid-flight via Starlink.
Qatar Airways is not the only airline to partner with Starlink; SpaceX has also signed agreements with United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and airBaltic to provide similar services. Currently, Starlink operates over 6,400 satellites in low Earth orbit, with plans for further expansion of its satellite network.
