Grand Egyptian Museum Unveils 12 Galleries Ahead of Official Opening

The Grand Egyptian Museum has opened 12 galleries in its main exhibition halls, welcoming up to 4,000 visitors per day, according to Al-Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister of Antiquities. Guests can explore the six-story grand staircase, adorned with pyramids, and visit the museum’s shopping area. However, the famed treasures of Pharaoh Tutankhamun are not yet on display.

This megaproject, located near the iconic Giza Pyramids, has been in development for over a decade, with a budget exceeding $1 billion. The museum’s opening has been delayed multiple times due to various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Some galleries have been accessible for limited tours since 2022.

When fully opened, the world’s largest archaeological museum is expected to showcase more than 100,000 artifacts from Egypt’s ancient treasures.

The trial phase will help fine-tune operations in preparation for the full opening, addressing potential issues, such as overcrowding in certain parts of the museum, Egyptian officials noted.
