Passenger Traffic on Russian Railways’ Network Decreased by 28.4%

According to the latest figures, 68.1 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways in November 2020, 28.4% less than in the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 63.7 million, a decline of 26.4%, while long-distance passengers fell to 4.4 million, which was down by 49.1%.

Passenger turnover in November 2020 amounted to 5.1 billion passenger-kilometres, 44.9% less than in the same month in 2019. Suburban passenger turnover fell to 1.9 billion pass-km, a decline of 28.8%, while long-distance passenger turnover declined to 3.2 billion pass-km, a drop of 51.5%.

In total, the Russian Railways’ infrastructure carried 795.8 million passengers during January to November 2020, a decline of 27.5% compared to January-November 2019. Long distance passenger numbers fell to 62.5 million, a decline of 42.1%, while suburban passengers were down to 733.3 million, a fall of 25.9%.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network since the beginning of 2020 decreased by 41.5% compared to the same eleven months last year and amounted to 72.6 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover fell to 22.8 billion pass-km, a decline of 27.6%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down to 49.8 billion pass-km, a fall of 46.2%.
