A government decree enters into force at midnight on Tuesday 1 September which only permits foreign citizens to enter Hungary under certain conditions. From 1 September, all arriving passengers are subject to a document check and medical screening. Non-exempted foreign citizens who are not allowed to enter the country can wait in the part of the transit area dedicated for this purpose until departure.
Only Hungarian citizens who are obliged to go to official home quarantine for a period of 14 days from entry may enter the territory of Hungary. Returning passengers may be exempted from quarantine if they certify that a SARS-CoV-2 test has been performed in Hungary at least 48 hours apart, with the result of a molecular biological test performed twice in accordance with the professional rules of health – SARS-CoV-2 test. coronavirus was not detectable in their bodies at the time of the study.
Rules for foreign citizens intending to enter Hungary
Exceptions to the entry ban are foreign nationals who have a permanent or Hungarian residence permit for more than 90 days (in the case of the former, family members may also enter), athletes or sports professionals working here, freight forwarders, persons on official visits, or all those who can prove that they have been infected with COVID-19 in the last six months.
In addition, the Police may, in certain individual cases, grant exemptions from the entry ban to foreigners who carry out business activities for which they have a certificate from a government body, students studying in Hungary, or must attend a family event. In addition, a foreign citizen who arrives for the care of a relative or attends a sporting, cultural or church event or has other reasonable grounds for entry may also enter with a special official permit.
Entrying foreign nationals are required to undergo official home quarantine for a period of 14 days from entry. They may be exempted from quarantine if, at least 48 hours apart, they are certified by a document containing the results of a molecular biological test, the SARS-CoV-2 test, carried out twice in accordance with professional health rules, that SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is present in their body. was not detectable at the time of the study. A negative test performed abroad does not exempt you from quarantine in Hungary.
A separate regulation pertains to entry into Hungary from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia by Hungarian citizens and the citizens of these countries.
The Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, August 26, decided to impose a ban on foreign citizens from entering Ukraine until the end of September.
