The coronavirus, officially dubbed “COVID-19” by the World Health Organization, has been officially classified as a global pandemic. The spread of Covid-19 and associated government travel restrictions have had a significant and negative impact on airline and cruise industry. Major hotel chains are yet to announce they are waiving cancellation fees.
IHG (InterContinental, Kimpton and Holiday Inn) is waiving cancellation fees for both new and existing bookings at any hotel around the world for stays between March 9 and April 30.
Marriott International (Westin, Sheraton, Residence Inn, Courtyard by Marriott and Ritz-Carlton) is now allowing full changes or cancelation free of charge up to 24 hours before arrival (changes have to be made by April 30).
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (La Quinta, Days Inn and Ramada) is waiving cancellation and change fees in China, South Korea and Italy through March 31.
Hilton (Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, DoubleTree, Waldorf Astoria), is also waiving fees for China, South Korea Saudi Arabia through March 31. All reservations – even those described as non-cancellable (“Advanced Purchase”) – that are scheduled for arrival before April 30, 2020 can be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival.
For just U.S. travelers, the Hilton policy now extends to stays in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland through April 12.
Hyatt announced that existing reservations for arrivals between March 14 and April 30 may be changed or canceled without penalty up to 24 hours in advance of your scheduled arrival time. Reservations made between March 13 and April 30 for any future date can also be changed or canceled with no charge, with the same 24-hour policy.
Four Seasons is waiving cancellation fees until April 30, 2020 for any existing and new individual reservations at all Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts worldwide.
