Kempinski Hotels Appoints Barbara Muckermann as CEO

Kempinski Hotels has announced the appointment of Barbara Muckermann as its new Chief Executive Officer. Muckermann, the former CEO of Silversea Cruises, is making history as the first woman to lead the prestigious hotel group in its 127-year existence.

Muckermann’s departure from Silversea Cruises in April was marked by her anticipation of a “new challenge,” which she has now embraced at Kempinski. She takes over from Bernold Schroeder, who had been serving as the interim CEO since late 2020 following the departure of Martin Smura.

With a robust career spanning 14 years at Silversea, Muckermann has held key roles including Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Marketing Officer before ascending to President and CEO in early 2023. Her extensive experience also includes significant positions with MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and luxury fashion house Loro Piana.

Muckermann’s leadership comes at a pivotal time for Kempinski, as the company is set for substantial expansion. Kempinski plans to increase its footprint by adding 34 new hotels and residences to its existing portfolio of 82 properties across 36 countries.

Her appointment signals a new era of growth and innovation for Kempinski Hotels, as the group continues to enhance its global presence in the luxury hospitality sector.
