Finland Implements New Financial Requirements for Schengen Visas

Finland has introduced new requirements for Schengen visas, notably increasing the daily financial obligation for travelers from 30 to 50 euros.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland announced this change, effective from January 1, 2024. Travelers arriving in Finland must now have funds of at least 50 euros per day of stay in the country, instead of the previous 30 euros. This requirement applies to visits lasting no more than 90 days.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the increase is associated with the rising cost of living in Finland.

Simultaneously, Finland is implementing Article 14 of the EU Visa Code, allowing the imposition of obligations related to maintenance and accommodation.

In the future, visa applications may take into account that a Finnish citizen or a person residing in the country with a residence permit undertakes to finance the applicant’s trip.

The receiving party must complete a sponsorship confirmation form, which is submitted with the visa application.

Romania and Bulgaria have reached agreements with Austria to join the Schengen Zone with open borders by air and sea starting from March 2024, while negotiations regarding land borders will continue into the following year.
