Icelandair carried 545,000 passengers in June 2026, a 1% decrease compared with the same month last year, as growth in outbound and domestic travel offset weaker demand on its connecting network.
The airline reported a load factor of nearly 86% for the month, while on-time performance reached just under 85%, reflecting continued operational improvements during the busy summer travel season.
Outbound and Domestic Travel Grow
Of all passengers carried in June, 35% travelled to Iceland, 19% departed from Iceland and 41% connected through Icelandair’s international network. Domestic services accounted for the remaining 5% of total traffic.
Passenger numbers departing Iceland increased by 12% year-on-year, while domestic traffic grew by 11% compared with June 2025.
However, inbound traffic to Iceland declined by 1%, and connecting passengers fell by 8%, contributing to the airline’s overall 1% decline in passenger numbers.
Charter and Cargo Performance Improves
Beyond scheduled passenger services, Icelandair reported strong growth in other parts of its business.
Sold block hours in charter operations increased by 16% compared with the same month last year, while cargo traffic, measured in tonne-kilometres, rose by 6%.
Lower Carbon Emissions
The airline also continued to improve its environmental performance during the month.
Carbon emissions per tonne-kilometre decreased by 4% year-on-year, which Icelandair attributed to the increased use of more fuel-efficient aircraft, operational improvements and consistently high load factors.
“We continue to place strong emphasis on reliable service, alongside ongoing fleet renewal and general operational improvements,” said Icelandair Chief Executive Officer Bogi Nils Bogason.
He added that the airline’s investments in fleet renewal and operational efficiency had helped reduce both fuel consumption and carbon emissions per tonne-kilometre while maintaining strong operational reliability.
