Icelandair and Southwest Airlines Launch Partnership to Expand Travel Networks

Icelandair and Southwest Airlines have signed a bilateral partnership agreement, marking a significant milestone for the two carriers. Announced on Wednesday, the collaboration will allow travelers to seamlessly connect between Icelandair’s extensive international network and Southwest’s expansive domestic routes. This deal represents Southwest Airlines’ first-ever international airline partnership.

The agreement, initially revealed in September 2024, will establish connections through Baltimore, Nashville, and Denver. The first phase of the partnership will begin in February 2025 with connections via Baltimore, while Nashville and Denver gateways will follow in the summer.

Icelandair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Tómas Ingason, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“The partnership will open new and exciting connections for our customers onwards with Southwest to numerous destinations in North America, and at the same time, their customers will benefit from our extensive connections to Iceland and onwards to Europe. We welcome Southwest to our strong partnership portfolio in the US and ever-growing group of partner airlines and look forward to working together in offering our customers smooth and enjoyable travel experiences.”

Icelandair currently boasts 11 codeshare partnerships and more than 70 interline agreements, connecting travelers to 34 European destinations, 17 North American cities, and four routes into Greenland. This partnership aims to enhance Icelandair’s presence in the U.S. market while offering Southwest passengers more opportunities to explore Iceland and Europe.

For customers, the collaboration means a streamlined travel experience, with increased accessibility and convenience across both networks.
