LOT Restarts Krakow Gdansk Route With Fewer Than Planned Flights

Polish carrier LOT has resumed flights between Krakow and Gdansk after an almost four-year break, but it has cut the service far below its original plan. The route is now operating only as a seasonal link and, according to the schedule, runs until 28 September.

The return of the domestic route gives travellers another option between two of Poland’s major cities, but the airline has sharply reduced capacity. Initial plans called for 71 rotations operated only by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, yet LOT decided to scale back the offering significantly.

The move comes as airlines continue to adjust domestic and regional schedules to match demand. Seasonal routes often appear and disappear quickly, especially where passenger numbers do not support year-round service.

LOT’s decision to restore the Krakow-Gdansk service after nearly four years suggests the airline sees at least some demand for the link. But the smaller-than-planned programme also shows that the carrier remains cautious about how much capacity it can fill.

Domestic aviation in Poland has seen airlines test short-haul routes and then trim them when results fall short. The reduction on this service points to a wider trend across European carriers, many of which are keeping a close eye on load factors and profitability.
