LOT Eyes Thai Airways Deal After Launching Warsaw-Bangkok Route

Polish carrier LOT is exploring a partnership with Thai Airways after launching regular flights between Warsaw and Bangkok, a move that reopened access to one of Southeast Asia’s most important markets for the airline.

For now, the route ends in the Thai capital. Passengers cannot yet buy a single ticket that connects them onward to other destinations in the region, or to Australia and New Zealand.

That could change if talks now under way between the two airlines lead to a wider agreement. LOT is working on cooperation with Thai Airways as it looks to expand the reach of its new long-haul service.

The Warsaw-Bangkok route marks an important step for LOT as it seeks to strengthen its presence in Asia. Bangkok is a major hub for onward travel across Southeast Asia, and a codeshare or interline arrangement with Thai Airways could make the route more useful for passengers connecting beyond Thailand.

At present, the lack of through-ticketing limits the appeal of the service for travellers heading to multiple destinations. A passenger flying from Warsaw can reach Bangkok on LOT, but must arrange separate tickets for further travel in the region, including to Australia and New Zealand.

That makes the potential partnership strategically significant. Thai Airways has a broad network across Asia and beyond, and any future cooperation could help LOT compete more effectively for leisure and business travellers using Bangkok as a transit point.

The talks also reflect a wider trend among long-haul airlines, which increasingly rely on partnerships to extend their networks without adding more aircraft or direct flights. For LOT, such an agreement would give it a stronger foothold in Southeast Asia while offering passengers more seamless connections.

No details have been announced about the scope or timing of any deal. But the carrier’s willingness to discuss deeper cooperation suggests it sees Bangkok not just as an end point, but as a gateway to the wider region.
