LOT Polish Airlines has switched on onboard Wi-Fi on three of its 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, allowing passengers to connect while flying on the carrier’s larger long-haul aircraft.
The service is currently available only on the bigger Dreamliners, the airline said, marking an early stage in the rollout across its fleet.
The move puts LOT among a growing number of airlines expanding in-flight connectivity on intercontinental routes, where passengers increasingly expect access to messaging, work tools and entertainment during the journey.
LOT has not said how quickly the service will reach the remaining 12 Boeing 787s, but the launch on three aircraft suggests the airline is testing or gradually introducing the system before a wider rollout.
Onboard internet has become a selling point for airlines competing for long-haul travellers, especially business passengers and families who want to stay connected in the air. Airlines typically use satellite-based systems to offer Wi-Fi over large distances, including on routes across Europe, Asia and North America.
For LOT, the decision to equip its Dreamliners with Wi-Fi strengthens the passenger experience on one of the airline’s most important aircraft types. The Boeing 787 fleet serves the carrier’s international network and is used on some of its longest services.
