Tony Castro Unveils 68m Sail-Assisted Superyacht Concept Samy

Tony Castro Yacht Design has revealed Samy, a 68-metre sail-assisted motor yacht concept that combines the comfort and interior volume of a traditional superyacht with an innovative propulsion system designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption.

Known as the “Sail-Assisted Motor Yacht,” or SAMY, the concept integrates inflatable sails, retractable masts and renewable energy technologies into a single, purpose-built design.

Integrated Sail-Assisted Propulsion

Unlike conventional sailing yachts, Samy was designed around its propulsion system from the outset. The yacht’s hull and superstructure have been developed to fully integrate retractable masts and inflatable sails, preserving sleek exterior lines while reducing wind resistance and deck clutter.

The superstructure incorporates rotating booms capable of 360-degree movement, allowing the sail system to maximise wind conditions while remaining unobtrusive when not in use.

According to Tony Castro Yacht Design, the integrated configuration provides a more efficient propulsion solution for owners planning long-range cruising.

Lower Fuel Consumption

The studio estimates that Samy could save approximately 33,000 litres of fuel during a typical round-trip voyage between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean compared with a conventional motor yacht of similar size.

In addition to sail-assisted propulsion, the concept incorporates solar energy systems and compact wind turbines integrated into the superstructure, creating what the designers describe as a comprehensive onboard renewable energy architecture.

Luxury Outdoor Living

Despite its innovative propulsion system, Samy retains the amenities expected aboard a modern luxury superyacht. The aft deck centres around a swimming pool surrounded by generous lounge spaces, alfresco dining areas and a Jacuzzi.

A fold-down beach club provides direct access to the water, further enhancing the yacht’s leisure facilities.

Motor Yacht Comfort

Inside, the concept has been designed to offer the spacious accommodation and uninterrupted guest areas typically associated with large motor yachts. By integrating the sailing system into the yacht’s overall architecture, the designers have avoided compromising interior volume while maintaining clean, contemporary exterior styling.

According to Tony Castro Yacht Design, Samy demonstrates how sustainable propulsion technologies can be incorporated into luxury yachts without sacrificing comfort, aesthetics or long-range cruising capability.
