JCB International Co., Ltd. and JCB International (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. have introduced contactless payment acceptance across the Taipei Metro, allowing passengers to travel by simply tapping their JCB contactless cards or compatible mobile devices at ticket gates.

The new payment option eliminates the need to purchase paper tickets or top up stored-value transit cards, providing a faster and more convenient travel experience for both residents and visitors exploring Taiwan’s capital.

Operating since 1996, the Taipei Metro is one of Taiwan’s most important public transportation networks, connecting Taipei City and New Taipei City through more than 100 kilometers of rail lines. The system serves major business districts, residential areas, and some of Taiwan’s best-known tourist attractions, including Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, Ximending, and Shilin Night Market.

With the rollout, JCB cardholders can now access the Taipei Metro, including the Circular Line operated by the New Taipei Metro, using contactless payment technology without requiring separate transit tickets.

The launch further expands JCB’s presence across Taiwan’s public transportation network. Contactless JCB payments are already accepted on the Kaohsiung Metro, Taoyuan Metro, and Taichung Metro, providing seamless travel across several of the island’s largest urban rail systems.

JCB said the expansion reflects the growing global adoption of contactless payments within public transport, making daily commuting and tourism more convenient while supporting the broader transition toward cashless mobility solutions.

The company added that it will continue working with transportation providers worldwide to expand contactless payment acceptance and create additional opportunities for cardholders to use JCB products throughout their journeys.
