Mamula Island by Banyan Tree

Banyan Tree Opens First Europe Resort in Montenegro

Banyan Group has opened its first Banyan Tree-branded resort in Europe, unveiling Mamula Island by Banyan Tree for its first full season. The property sits on a secluded islet in Montenegro and marks the brand’s debut on the continent.

The launch adds a new high-end option to the eastern Adriatic, a region already known for its coastlines, historic towns and island stays. Banyan Group says the resort opens under its flagship brand, Banyan Tree, after earlier activity in the area through its wider portfolio.

In a statement, the company said Mamula Island by Banyan Tree is part of a broader push to grow its global hospitality footprint. It described the property as Banyan Tree’s first resort in Europe, underscoring the group’s strategy to expand into new luxury markets.

The resort’s setting is central to its appeal. Mamula Island is described as a secluded islet, giving the property the privacy and isolation that many luxury travellers look for. The opening places Banyan Tree in a destination that combines natural scenery with easy access to the Adriatic’s sailing and beach tourism.

Banyan Group’s entry into Europe comes as luxury hotel brands continue to look for distinctive locations beyond major city centres. Islands, heritage sites and converted properties have become popular backdrops for new openings, especially where operators can offer a strong sense of place.

The company, officially Banyan Group and also referred to as Banyan Tree Holdings Limited, is listed on the Singapore Exchange under the ticker B58. It said the unveiling of Mamula Island by Banyan Tree marks a significant step for the brand as it moves into a new region.

The first full season opening means the resort is now being presented to travellers across the peak period for the Adriatic. That timing gives Banyan Tree a chance to attract visitors looking for luxury stays in a quieter, more remote setting than many better-known Mediterranean destinations.

Banyan Tree has built its name on resort-led hospitality in Asia and other long-haul leisure markets. The Europe launch extends that model into a part of the world where upscale coastal travel remains a major draw, particularly during the summer months.

For Montenegro, the opening adds another internationally branded property to its tourism offer. The country has been working to attract higher-spending visitors by promoting its coastline, marinas and island escapes alongside its mountain and heritage attractions.

The resort’s debut also reflects the continued rise of experiential luxury travel, where travellers increasingly seek privacy, scenery and a strong local identity. Secluded properties like Mamula Island by Banyan Tree fit that demand by offering a location that is as much part of the experience as the accommodation itself.

With this opening, Banyan Tree joins the growing number of global hotel brands using the Adriatic as a platform for expansion. The move gives the company a foothold in Europe while adding a new chapter to Montenegro’s luxury tourism story.
