Banyan Tree Mayakoba Completes $100 Million Renovation

Banyan Tree Mayakoba has announced the completion of a multi-phased, property-wide renovation, marking the end of a five-year transformation backed by nearly $100 million in investment. The milestone signals a new chapter for the Riviera Maya resort, focused on elevated private villa living, enhanced privacy and deeper connections to nature.

Set among mangroves and lagoons, the resort’s renewal builds on Banyan Tree’s long-standing philosophy of creating meaningful experiences that connect guests with their surroundings, while refining the elements that have defined the property for years.

Reimagined Villas Focus On Privacy And Nature

At the centre of the transformation is a complete redesign of the resort’s villa portfolio, tailored to modern travellers seeking seclusion, personalisation and immersive environments.

Newly reimagined categories include Bliss Pool Villas, Serenity Pool Villas, Wellbeing Sanctuary Pool Villas and multi-bedroom Harmony villas, each designed to blend indoor and outdoor living.

Interiors, created in collaboration with Room 1804, combine Asian and Mexican influences through natural materials such as wood, stone and ceramics. Expansive windows, open layouts and upgraded outdoor spaces with private pools and terraces reinforce a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape.

The Wellbeing Sanctuary villas further integrate wellness into the stay, incorporating dedicated elements that support relaxation and balance.

A Five-Year Transformation Shaped By Changing Travel Trends

The renovation began in 2019, reflecting evolving guest expectations around privacy, multi-generational travel and wellness-focused experiences.

Rather than redefining the resort entirely, the project focused on refining existing spaces while preserving its original identity. Around $45 million of the total investment was allocated to the latest phase, which concentrated on guest accommodations and family residences.

Earlier phases introduced new experiences and venues across the property, gradually reshaping the resort’s offering over time.

New Dining Concepts And Guest Experiences

The transformation includes the introduction of new culinary concepts, such as Suna, a speakeasy-style venue blending Peruvian and Japanese influences.

Other additions include the Sur Beach Club, an adults-only oceanfront space inspired by Spanish beach culture, and the Sands Beach Club, which has been refreshed following its original debut.

The resort has also expanded its accommodation offering with beachfront suites and overwater villas featuring rooftop pools and panoramic views.

Future Developments Already Underway

Further enhancements are planned for 2026, including the opening of a new restaurant, La Cocina Corazon, and an updated concept for Sur Beach Club.

The resort will also introduce a refreshed version of its signature Thai restaurant, Saffron, reinforcing Banyan Tree’s heritage while continuing to evolve its culinary identity.

With its extensive renovation now complete, Banyan Tree Mayakoba positions itself for a new era, combining its established reputation for privacy and luxury with a renewed focus on design, wellness and immersive travel experiences.
