Romania Plans One Of Europe’s Highest Suspension Bridges In Transylvania

A new suspension bridge planned in Romania’s Transylvania region could become one of Europe’s most spectacular tourist attractions, following the signing of a contract for its design and construction.

The ambitious project will span the Rebra River valley near the village of Parva and is expected to significantly boost tourism in the area while showcasing the dramatic mountain scenery surrounding the Rodna Mountains National Park.

Local authorities believe the development could transform the region into a major destination for visitors seeking outdoor adventures, panoramic views and unique engineering landmarks.

Bridge Could Become One Of Europe’s Highest

According to project plans, the pedestrian suspension bridge will stretch approximately 620 meters across the valley and reach a maximum height of around 300 meters above the ground.

If completed as proposed, the structure could rank among the highest pedestrian suspension bridges in Europe and become one of Romania’s most photographed attractions.

The combination of its length, height and mountain setting is expected to make the bridge a significant draw for both domestic and international travelers.

Investment Exceeds €4.5 Million

The total value of the project is estimated at more than 23.8 million Romanian lei, equivalent to approximately €4.55 million.

The investment covers the design and construction of the bridge, as well as supporting infrastructure required to accommodate visitors and improve access to the site.

Authorities expect the project to generate long-term economic benefits through increased tourism activity and visitor spending in the surrounding area.

Tourism Development Strategy For Parva

The announcement was made by Parva mayor Ioan Strugari, who described the bridge as a key component of a broader development strategy aimed at revitalizing the community.

According to local officials, the project is intended to position Parva as an emerging tourism destination while creating new opportunities for economic growth and investment.

The bridge is expected to attract nature enthusiasts, hikers, photographers and adventure travelers looking to experience the landscapes of northern Transylvania from a unique perspective.

Showcasing The Rodna Mountains

One of the main objectives of the project is to increase awareness of the Rodna Mountains National Park, one of Romania’s most important protected natural areas.

The park is known for its rugged peaks, alpine meadows, forests and diverse wildlife, yet remains less visited than some of the country’s more established tourist destinations.

Officials hope the new attraction will encourage more travelers to explore the region while supporting sustainable tourism development in the surrounding communities.

A New Landmark For Romanian Tourism

Beyond its engineering significance, the bridge is envisioned as a symbol of the region’s transformation and ambition. Local leaders see the project as an opportunity to create a vibrant destination capable of attracting younger visitors, creative initiatives and cultural events.

If completed according to current plans, the suspension bridge could become one of Romania’s most recognizable tourism landmarks and a new highlight for travelers exploring Transylvania’s mountain landscapes.
