Romania Plans €1bn Dracula-Themed Mega Park near Bucharest

Romania is preparing to open one of Europe’s most ambitious entertainment developments, a large-scale theme park inspired by the legend of Dracula. The €1 billion project, located near Bucharest, has already earned the nickname “Transylvanian Disneyland” and is positioned as a landmark destination blending entertainment, hospitality, retail, and technology.

The project, officially titled Dracula Land, is being developed as a multifunctional complex designed to become the largest centre of entertainment, retail, and innovation in Europe. Construction plans place the development on a site close to the Romanian capital, with an expected opening window in 2026–2027.

A city-scale entertainment concept

Dracula Land is envisioned as a fully integrated destination rather than a standalone theme park. The masterplan combines a large-scale amusement park with a water park, thermal spa complex, hotels, shopping outlets, a motorsport circuit, entertainment venues, and a business and technology hub.

The core theme park will cover approximately 780,000 square metres and feature 40 major rides alongside six immersive themed zones. Developers expect the park alone to attract millions of visitors annually, supported by year-round facilities that extend beyond seasonal tourism.

Immersive zones inspired by myth and fantasy

Visitors will enter through the Moonlit District, a dramatic gateway area featuring the Transylvanian Railway, a 10-metre double carousel, projection mapping and drone shows, an immersive exhibition on cinematic vampires, and a themed route titled The Legend of Vlad.

Family Kingdom will focus on younger visitors and families, presenting supernatural creatures from cultures around the world. Plans include a 4D cinema, children’s play areas, a live performance stage, and multiple family-oriented attractions.

A dedicated Transylvania zone, styled after the Carpathian Mountains, will recreate traditional villages and mysterious forests. This area will combine roller coasters, water rides, playgrounds, and a rural-style market designed to evoke local heritage.

Dracula’s Castle as the centrepiece

One of the park’s signature attractions will be Dracula’s Castle, set amid ruins, landscaped gardens, and an artificial lake. Inside, guests will navigate labyrinths, underground high-speed routes, and boat rides, creating a multi-layered experience that blends thrill, storytelling, and atmosphere.

Additional themed districts include Port of New Orleans, focused on high-adrenaline attractions, and London Town, inspired by Victorian-era London. The latter will feature horse-drawn carriages, souvenir shops, and a Globe Theatre-style venue, reinforcing the park’s narrative depth.

Hotels, spa, and large-scale events

Beyond the theme park, the wider complex will include an expansive water park and thermal spa with more than 30 water attractions and one of Europe’s largest wave pools.

Three themed hotels will be developed on-site: Dracula Grand Hotel, Dracula Family Hotel, and Dracula Inn, offering a combined total of approximately 1,200 rooms. These will be complemented by a retail outlet zone of around 9,000 square metres hosting more than 70 brands.

The project also includes a multifunctional arena with seating for up to 22,500 people, designed to host concerts, festivals, and major events. A racing circuit of roughly 4.5 kilometres, alongside a business and technology hub, further expands the project’s scope beyond tourism.

Ambitions beyond tourism

Developers estimate that in its initial phase, Dracula Land will attract around 3 million visitors per year. Founder Dragos Dobrescu has described the project not simply as a real estate development, but as a national symbol intended to demonstrate Romania’s capacity to create large-scale, meaningful landmark destinations rooted in its own history and mythology.

If delivered as planned, Dracula Land could significantly reshape Romania’s position on Europe’s tourism map, transforming the Dracula legend into a modern, immersive destination with global appeal.
