Travellers heading to Romania have a new gateway to explore, as Turkish Airlines expands its network with the launch of flights to Timișoara, strengthening connections between Eastern Europe and the rest of the world.
The new route, which began operating on April 2, adds five weekly flights between Istanbul and Timișoara, making it the airline’s fourth destination in Romania. With this addition, Turkish Airlines now operates 47 weekly flights across the country, reinforcing its presence in a region that continues to grow in popularity among both tourists and business travellers.
The launch was marked by an inaugural ceremony at Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport, underlining the importance of the route for regional connectivity. Airline leadership highlighted Romania’s strategic role as a bridge between Central and Eastern Europe, with the new service expected to support both tourism and commercial travel.
For travellers, the route opens up easier access to Timișoara – a city often described as “Little Vienna” thanks to its elegant architecture and cultural heritage. Located along the Bega River in western Romania, the city is known for its lively squares, historic buildings, and vibrant arts scene. Landmarks such as Union Square and Victory Square remain key attractions, while its recent designation as European Capital of Culture in 2023 has further elevated its international profile.
The new connection also enhances access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network via Istanbul, offering seamless onward travel to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
To mark the launch, promotional fares are being offered, with return journeys on the Istanbul–Timișoara route starting from $169. The move is expected to make the destination more accessible for short city breaks, cultural trips, and business travel alike.
As airlines continue to expand routes across Europe, Timișoara’s addition signals growing demand for lesser-known but culturally rich destinations – giving travellers more diverse options beyond traditional tourist hubs.
