The MICHELIN Guide will officially expand into South Australia with the launch of its inaugural South Australia restaurant selection in October 2026.
The new guide will showcase restaurants across the region, highlighting South Australia’s diverse culinary identity, internationally recognised wine regions and growing reputation as a destination for food-focused travel.
The full MICHELIN Guide South Australia 2027 selection will be revealed during a special event and published exclusively through the guide’s digital platforms.
Inspectors Highlight Creativity And Strong Local Identity
According to the MICHELIN Guide, inspectors were particularly impressed by South Australia’s strong culinary individuality, ingredient-driven cooking and close connection between chefs and local producers.
The guide described the region’s dining culture as one shaped by creativity, openness and authenticity, where European traditions and Asian influences combine with native Australian ingredients and modern cooking techniques.
Wood-fired and charcoal cooking, local produce and a relaxed yet refined hospitality culture were also identified as defining characteristics of the region’s food scene.
Focus On Wine, Produce And Gastronomic Travel
South Australia’s internationally known wine regions are expected to play a major role in the guide’s coverage.
The MICHELIN Guide said the proximity between vineyards, producers and dining destinations creates a strong culinary ecosystem attractive to global travellers seeking authentic food and wine experiences.
The region is increasingly positioning itself as a leading gastronomic destination through its mix of fine dining, regional produce and cultural identity.
Government Welcomes Michelin Recognition
The expansion of the MICHELIN Guide into South Australia is supported by the South Australian Government.
Tourism Minister Emily Bourke described the announcement as major international recognition for the state’s hospitality and culinary sector.
She said South Australia already holds a strong reputation for food, wine and tourism experiences, supported by a calendar of festivals, regional events and acclaimed dining destinations.
Selection To Follow Michelin’s Global Standards
The restaurant selection will be carried out according to the MICHELIN Guide’s established international methodology.
Anonymous inspectors will assess restaurants based on five core criteria: ingredient quality, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavours, personality of the cuisine and consistency over time and across the menu.
The guide will include MICHELIN Star distinctions as well as Bib Gourmand awards recognising restaurants that offer high-quality food at moderate prices.
Digital-Only Launch Planned
The MICHELIN Guide South Australia 2027 will be released exclusively in digital format through the guide’s website, mobile applications and social media platforms.
The launch marks another major expansion for the MICHELIN Guide as it continues to broaden its presence across international culinary destinations.
