The Margot Hotel Opens In San Diego As Part Of Hilton’s New Outset Collection

A new boutique hotel concept has arrived in downtown San Diego with the official opening of The Margot Hotel in the city’s Gaslamp Quarter.

The property is among the first hotels to debut under Outset Collection by Hilton, the hospitality group’s new lifestyle brand focused on independently styled hotels with strong local identity and design-driven experiences.

Located near Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center, the hotel aims to deliver a more personalised and locally connected hospitality experience rather than a traditional large-scale hotel approach.

A Lifestyle Hotel With A Residential Feel

The Margot Hotel features 135 spacious suites designed with a residential-style layout intended to combine urban energy with the comfort of apartment living.

Suites include fully equipped kitchens, open-plan interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows offering views across downtown San Diego.

The interiors reflect a modern California-inspired design aesthetic focused on natural light, warm materials and relaxed social spaces.

Experience Designed Around Local Discovery

The hotel’s identity is built around the fictional personality of “Margot,” whose character shapes the property’s service style, recommendations and guest interactions.

The concept is intended to make the stay feel more intuitive and locally rooted, with curated neighbourhood suggestions and partnerships with nearby food and artisan businesses.

Guests can access locally sourced in-room offerings and recommendations ranging from breakfast cafés to late-night taco spots popular with residents.

An upcoming lobby bar inspired by Margot’s “favourite drinks” is also planned as a future social hub within the hotel.

Terrace Spaces And Modern Amenities

The hotel includes an eighth-floor terrace with lounge seating, outdoor dining and a fire pit overlooking the city.

Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness centre, valet parking and pet-friendly accommodation.

The property has also incorporated environmentally conscious touches including reusable water bottles and reduced use of single-use plastics.

Part Of Hilton’s Expanding Boutique Strategy

The Margot Hotel forms part of Hilton’s broader expansion into lifestyle and boutique hospitality through Outset Collection.

The brand was created to highlight independently designed hotels while giving them access to Hilton’s global booking platform and Hilton Honors loyalty programme.

Hilton says more than 60 Outset Collection properties are currently in development across the United States, spanning urban boutique hotels and destination-focused resorts.

Locally Driven With Professional Management

The property is managed by Ensemble, which oversees hotel operations while maintaining the hotel’s independent character and locally focused atmosphere.

Executives from both Hilton and Ensemble described The Margot Hotel as an example of the growing demand for story-led hospitality experiences that feel authentic to their surroundings.

The hotel is now open to guests in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
