Avani Opens Landmark New Beach Hotel On Australia’s Sunshine Coast

Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel has officially opened on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, becoming the first internationally branded new-build hotel to launch in the region in more than 40 years.

The opening marks a major milestone for Mooloolaba as the popular Australian coastal destination continues attracting growing domestic and international tourism demand.

New Beachfront Hotel Opens In Mooloolaba

Located on Mooloolaba Esplanade overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the new hotel features 180 guest rooms designed around a contemporary beachside concept.

The property combines modern interiors with open social spaces intended to connect guests with the coastline and the wider Sunshine Coast lifestyle.

Scott Wright, General Manager of Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel, described the opening as the culmination of a long-term vision to elevate the accommodation offering on the Sunshine Coast.

Part Of Wider Expansion Strategy

The hotel joins Minor Hotels’ expanding Avani portfolio across Australia and Australasia.

Craig Hooley, Chief Operating Officer of Minor Hotels Australasia, said the launch represents an important step in the company’s regional growth strategy focused on premium lifestyle hospitality.

Avani currently operates properties in destinations including Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Rooftop Pool, Spa And Dining Concepts

The new property includes a rooftop pool and terrace alongside wellness facilities including AvaniSpa and AvaniFit.

An Avani Experience Host service will also help guests arrange tailored activities across the Sunshine Coast, including ocean experiences, hiking trails and local dining.

Dining at the hotel is led by Sully’s Rooftop restaurant under Executive Chef Marky Godbeer.

The venue is initially opening exclusively for hotel guests ahead of its public launch on 15 May.

The menu focuses heavily on regional seafood and local produce, including Mooloolaba prawns, while combining fine dining influences with a relaxed coastal atmosphere.

Tourism Investment Continues Across Sunshine Coast

The hotel opening coincides with broader tourism infrastructure investment across the Sunshine Coast region.

The Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation Project is expected to upgrade beachfront public areas and improve visitor access, while the ongoing AUD 170 million redevelopment of Sunshine Coast Airport aims to strengthen domestic and international air connectivity.

The airport expansion is designed to support growing traffic from cities including Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, alongside international markets such as Auckland, Denpasar and Singapore.

Opening Offers Available Through June

Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel is currently offering special opening rates starting from AUD 319 per night based on double occupancy in a Deluxe King Room.

The offer includes breakfast, complimentary parking and late checkout when available for bookings made before 30 June 2026.
