Aman Sveti Stefan, the historic luxury resort in Montenegro once visited by celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, is set to reopen this summer after remaining closed for nearly four years.
The iconic property will resume operations from July 1 following the resolution of a long-running dispute over public beach access.
Historic Island Resort Returns After Legal Dispute
Located around 10 kilometres from Budva, the island of Sveti Stefan is connected to the mainland by a narrow sand isthmus and has long been considered one of Montenegro’s most recognizable luxury destinations.
The former fortified fishing village was transformed into a luxury hotel by the Yugoslav government during the 1950s.
After extensive restoration work, the resort reopened under the Aman brand in 2009 before closing again in 2021 amid tensions over residents’ beach access rights.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić confirmed that an agreement has now been reached allowing nearby residents access to Sveti Stefan Beach and King’s Beach, while Queen’s Beach will remain reserved exclusively for Aman guests.
The government will also receive a 10% share of profits under the new arrangement.
Villa Miločer To Operate Year-Round
The wider Aman Sveti Stefan resort includes 33 suites and cottages located on the island itself, alongside accommodation at nearby Villa Miločer on the mainland.
While the island property will continue operating seasonally, Villa Miločer will begin year-round operations from May 22. Villa Miločer was formerly used as the summer residence of Queen Marija Karađorđević.
The island accommodation is located within restored 15th-century stone cottages featuring garden or sea views.
Luxury Spa And Beaches Remain Key Attractions
The Aman Spa, located near Queen’s Beach, features four double treatment rooms, a 24-metre indoor pool and hydrotherapy facilities including saunas, steam rooms and cold-plunge areas.
The resort also offers a 140-square-metre fitness centre alongside dedicated yoga and Pilates studios.
Sveti Stefan Beach features a pink pebble shoreline stretching approximately 170 metres, while King’s Beach extends for 280 metres.
Queen’s Beach, known for its emerald-green water and pink sand, remains one of the property’s most exclusive areas.
Government Limits Future Construction
Prime Minister Spajić also confirmed that no additional construction will be permitted within Miločer Park beyond projects already approved under existing permits.
The reopening marks a significant milestone for Montenegro’s luxury tourism sector as the country continues positioning itself as a premium Adriatic destination.
