oneworld Welcomes Hawaiian Airlines Adding Honolulu as Key Global Hub

oneworld has officially welcomed Hawaiian Airlines as its newest member, strengthening the alliance’s footprint across the Pacific and adding Honolulu as a major global hub.

The move marks a significant expansion for the alliance, which now includes three US-based carriers alongside Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.

For travellers, the addition opens up new routes and seamless connections across the Hawaiian Islands and beyond.

New destinations across the Pacific

With Hawaiian Airlines joining the network, oneworld customers gain improved access to a range of destinations that were previously less connected within the alliance.

These include Hilo in Hawai‘i, as well as international Pacific destinations such as Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, Pago Pago in American Samoa, and Papeete in Tahiti.

The expansion enhances connectivity in a region that has traditionally been underserved by global airline alliances, making multi-destination itineraries across the Pacific significantly easier to plan.

A stronger global network

Passengers flying with Hawaiian Airlines will now be able to connect to nearly 1,000 destinations worldwide through the oneworld network.

At the same time, the airline’s top-tier frequent flyers gain access to oneworld Priority benefits, including First Class check-in, fast-track security at selected airports and entry to nearly 700 premium lounges globally.

This includes flagship facilities such as those at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Incheon International Airport.

A strategic move for both sides

According to Ole Orvér, the addition of Hawaiian Airlines strengthens the alliance’s presence in both the United States and the Pacific, while enhancing the overall customer experience.

For Diana Birkett Rakow, joining oneworld represents an opportunity to bring greater global connectivity and benefits to its passengers, including members of its loyalty programme.

The partnership also aligns with Hawaiian Airlines’ long-standing identity, centred around hospitality and the cultural concept of “aloha”, now extended to a global audience.

A gateway to Hawai‘i and beyond

As part of the alliance, Honolulu becomes a more prominent gateway linking North America, Asia and the South Pacific.

For travellers, this translates into smoother connections, expanded route options and a more integrated travel experience – particularly for those planning multi-stop journeys across island destinations.

The addition of Hawaiian Airlines signals a continued evolution of airline alliances, where network depth and regional reach are becoming increasingly critical in shaping global travel.
