Global airline alliance oneworld has expanded beyond aviation loyalty programs for the first time through a new partnership with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), creating what both companies describe as the first loyalty collaboration between a global airline alliance and a hotel group.
The agreement connects oneworld’s extensive airline network with one of India’s largest hospitality companies, allowing frequent flyers to access hotel discounts, loyalty benefits and eventually reciprocal status recognition.
The move reflects growing competition among travel companies to build broader ecosystems connecting flights, hotels and customer loyalty.
New Partnership Connects Nearly 1,000 Airline Destinations With More Than 630 Hotels
The agreement links oneworld’s global airline network, which spans nearly 1,000 destinations, with IHCL’s portfolio of more than 630 hotels across four continents.
The partnership covers multiple hotel brands including Taj, Claridges Collection, SeleQtions, Gateway, Vivanta, Ginger, Tree of Life, Brij, Clarks and amã Stays & Trails.
Among the best-known properties included are iconic hotels such as the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai and Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, alongside international properties including The Pierre in New York and St. James Court in London.
Across India, oneworld member airlines currently operate services to 17 cities through 11 alliance carriers.
Loyalty Members Receive Discounts And Hotel Benefits
The partnership introduces tier-based benefits for loyalty members booking through dedicated channels.
Top-tier oneworld Emerald members receive 15% discounts on best available room rates, food, non-alcoholic beverages and spa treatments.
Ruby and Sapphire members, along with other eligible members, receive discounts of 10% across participating properties.
Customers making their first booking through participating hotels will also gain access to additional promotional vouchers and hotel credits.
Reciprocal Status Matching Planned As Partnership Expands
A major next step will introduce reciprocal loyalty recognition between hotel and airline programs.
Under the planned structure, oneworld Emerald members will receive equivalent status within Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass Gold, while Sapphire and Ruby members will receive Silver-tier recognition.
Hotel loyalty members will also receive airline status matches depending on their membership level and participating airline program.
The companies say future development could eventually include points earning opportunities on hotel stays across selected airline loyalty programs, further blurring the lines between aviation and hospitality loyalty ecosystems.
