Mandarin Oriental to Debut Punta Negra Resort in Mallorca in June 2026

Mandarin Oriental is set to strengthen its presence in Spain with the highly anticipated opening of Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, scheduled for 1 June 2026. Positioned in Calvià near the upscale marina of Puerto Portals, the new resort is poised to become one of the island’s most distinctive luxury destinations, combining contemporary design with a deep connection to Mallorca’s natural and cultural heritage.

Perched on the iconic Punta Negra coastline, the property enjoys uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean, framed by Aleppo pines and rugged cliffs. The setting is central to the resort’s identity, offering guests direct access to two secluded coves and an immersive sense of privacy that remains increasingly rare in the Balearic Islands.

The resort will feature 131 rooms and suites, including 26 suites, nine private casitas, and a selection of accommodations with plunge pools and rooftop terraces. Designed with a focus on understated luxury, the interiors incorporate hand-placed stonework, natural materials, and a palette of soft neutral tones that reflect the island’s landscape. Art also plays a central role, with curated works from local and international artists integrated throughout both private and shared spaces.

Duarte Correia, General Manager of the property, describes the project as a tribute to Mallorca’s identity, blending the tranquillity of the Mediterranean with the island’s artisan traditions and community spirit. The concept positions the resort not only as a place to stay, but as a curated experience rooted in local culture.

Dining is expected to be a major draw, with a collection of high-profile culinary concepts shaping the resort’s gastronomic offering. Among them is Matsuhisa, led by renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa, bringing his signature Nikkei cuisine to Mallorca with a focus on refined sushi and Japanese-Peruvian flavours. Leña by Dani García introduces a contemporary steakhouse concept centred on fire and premium produce, while Jacinta explores Mexican cuisine through a modern lens.

Additional venues include Leppoc, an all-day dining restaurant focused on Mediterranean and Levantine influences, and Sobretaula, a terrace-based tapas concept designed to reflect the relaxed rhythm of island life. Thalos, the poolside bar, adds a more casual layer with Greek-inspired dishes and a social daytime atmosphere.

Executive Chef Sergio De La Plata emphasises a philosophy grounded in local sourcing and storytelling, with menus designed to reflect both the land and sea surrounding the resort.

Wellness is another cornerstone of the Punta Negra experience. The spa will feature nine treatment rooms, including dedicated couples’ suites, alongside a comprehensive range of thermal and water-based facilities. Signature treatments such as the Curandero Experience incorporate local herbs and traditional healing practices, while the Tea Ceremony blends Mediterranean and Oriental rituals.

Leisure facilities extend across indoor and outdoor spaces, including multiple pools with sea views, a fitness centre, and dedicated areas for relaxation and rejuvenation. The combination of wellness, gastronomy, and design reflects Mandarin Oriental’s broader strategy of creating destination-led resorts that go beyond conventional luxury hospitality.

As Mallorca continues to evolve as a high-end travel destination, the opening of Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra signals a further shift toward experiential and design-driven hospitality. With its opening timed for the start of the 2026 summer season, the resort is expected to attract both international travellers and a growing segment of visitors seeking a more refined and immersive Mediterranean escape.
