Evacuation Underway at Paphos Airport After Drone Threat in Cyprus

Visitors and staff at Paphos International Airport, the second-largest airport in Cyprus, were evacuated following reports of a drone sighting and potential security risk.

Security authorities received information indicating a possible threat targeting both the airport and the nearby Andreas Papandreou Air Base. As a precaution, evacuation procedures were initiated while security forces assessed the situation.

Evacuations at British Military Bases

Evacuation measures were also reported at the British military base in Dhekelia.

Later, the Cypriot government’s press office confirmed that two drones heading toward the British base at RAF Akrotiri had been intercepted.

Heightened Security Measures

Authorities have not disclosed further operational details but indicated that security protocols were activated in response to the perceived threat.

The developments come amid heightened regional tensions, prompting increased vigilance around critical infrastructure, including airports and military installations.

Operations and air traffic updates are expected once security assessments are completed.
