More than fifty flights were canceled on Monday at Guadalajara International Airport as of now (06.20 GMT-5), as airlines continued to adjust schedules amid operational instability affecting western Mexico.
Based on a full review of published arrival and departure boards, 28 inbound flights and 24 outbound flights were marked canceled, bringing the total confirmed cancellations to 52 flights in a single day. Despite the disruption, the airport itself remains open, with runways active and dozens of other flights operating on schedule or with delays.
Arrivals hit hard
Of the 74 arrivals listed during the primary operating window, 28 were canceled — a disruption rate of approximately 38 percent.
The largest share of inbound cancellations came from Viva Aerobus (12 flights), followed by Volaris (9 flights) and Aeromexico (7 flights).
Canceled arrival routes included major domestic corridors such as Mexico City, Monterrey, Tijuana and Veracruz, as well as U.S. gateways including Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland and Newark.
Departures also reduced
Outbound traffic showed a similarly significant contraction. A total of 24 departures were canceled, with the breakdown as follows:
Viva Aerobus — 11 cancellations
Aeromexico — 9 cancellations
Volaris — 2 cancellations
United Airlines — 1 cancellation
American Airlines — 1 cancellation
Canceled departures affected both domestic routes and key international connections to Houston and Dallas.
Airport open, airlines pulling back
Airport authorities have not announced a closure, and cargo operations, long-haul services and several U.S.-bound flights continued operating throughout the day. However, the scale of cancellations indicates that airlines are proactively trimming schedules rather than suspending airport operations entirely.
Aviation analysts note that when multiple carriers reduce frequency simultaneously, disruption compounds quickly. Aircraft rotations fall out of sequence, crews require repositioning and capacity shrinks across connected hubs.
With 52 confirmed cancellations in one day, Guadalajara is experiencing one of its most significant single-day operational contractions in recent months — even as the airport remains technically open.
Passengers scheduled to travel through Guadalajara are strongly advised to verify flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport, as additional adjustments may continue throughout the operating cycle.
