Turkish Airlines has officially resumed flights between Istanbul and Sulaymaniyah, reconnecting the southeastern Iraqi city with its vast global network after more than a year’s pause. The route, which was suspended in April 2023, relaunched on November 2, 2025, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s presence in Iraq.
With this reinstatement, Turkish Airlines now serves six destinations across Iraq — Baghdad, Basra, Erbil, Kirkuk, Najaf, and Sulaymaniyah — reaffirming its role as a key bridge between Türkiye and the Middle East.
Flights between Istanbul Airport and Sulaymaniyah International Airport will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using the airline’s modern fleet. The frequency will increase to daily service beginning March 27, 2026, as part of the summer schedule.
Commenting on the relaunch, Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, said:
“We are glad to relaunch our Sulaymaniyah flights, connecting this destination which boasts rich cultural and natural heritage to the world with the comfort and hospitality of Turkish Airlines. With this route, we will not only further strengthen our presence in the region but also continue to contribute to the trade and cultural ties between Türkiye and Iraq.”
The return of flights to Sulaymaniyah underscores Turkish Airlines’ commitment to expanding regional connectivity, fostering economic and cultural exchange, and providing greater travel flexibility for both business and leisure passengers traveling between Türkiye and Iraq.
