Italy is introducing the Siena Express, a vintage train experience connecting Rome and Siena this autumn. Designed for travelers seeking a slow-paced, immersive journey, the service combines restored 1970s carriages with panoramic views of Tuscany’s rolling hills, vineyards, and historic towns.
Unlike modern high-speed routes, the Siena Express emphasizes leisure, charm, and connection with the Italian countryside. Passengers can rediscover the golden age of rail travel aboard meticulously restored Gran Confort carriages, featuring wide windows, plush seating, and an elegant vintage atmosphere.
Schedule and Travel Experience
The train will operate on three weekends this autumn, departing Rome Termini at 07:42 and arriving in Siena at approximately 13:20. The return journey leaves Siena at 15:05 on Sunday, arriving in Rome by evening. The itinerary highlights Tuscany at its most enchanting, from late September through early November, when vineyards, hills, and medieval towns are at their peak beauty. Fares start at €29, making it an accessible option for travelers seeking a nostalgic adventure.
Scenic Route Through Tuscany
The Siena Express travels through Lazio and Tuscany, stopping at Tarquinia, Capalbio, Orbetello, Grosseto, Montepescali, Monte Antico, Buonconvento, and Monteroni d’Arbia. Each stop offers a unique glimpse of Italian history, culture, and natural beauty. Large panoramic windows ensure passengers can enjoy Tuscany’s patchwork of landscapes at a relaxed pace, turning the journey itself into an unforgettable experience.
The Siena Express promises a unique autumn escape, inviting travelers to slow down, savor the scenery, and reconnect with the authentic charm of Italy.
