Following the successful launch of flights to Damascus in January 2025, Turkish Airlines has now added Aleppo to its Syrian network, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s post-conflict expansion into the country. This brings the total number of Syrian destinations served by the airline to two.
Initially operating three weekly round-trip flights between Istanbul Airport and Aleppo International Airport, Turkish Airlines will increase the frequency to five weekly flights starting August 19, before transitioning to daily service from September 1.
“Aleppo is one of the most important cities in the region with its historical and cultural richness,” said Mahmut Yayla, Turkish Airlines SVP Sales. “With the reopening of our Aleppo route, we aim to strengthen economic and social ties between the two countries.”
Strategic and Symbolic Move
The reintroduction of flights to Aleppo signals both growing stability in Syria and Turkish Airlines’ strategic interest in re-establishing air links with historically significant regional cities. As Aleppo continues to rebuild, renewed air service is expected to aid in humanitarian mobility, cultural exchange, business recovery, and tourism development.
This route expansion aligns with Turkish Airlines’ broader strategy of enhancing regional reach while leveraging Istanbul’s role as a major global hub.
Passengers flying to Aleppo can now connect easily through Istanbul to over 340 destinations worldwide, reinforcing Turkish Airlines’ status as the airline flying to more countries than any other.
Looking Ahead
As geopolitical and economic conditions allow, Turkish Airlines’ return to Syria could serve as a foundation for future growth in the Levant, potentially opening the door to more destinations and increased travel demand in the region.
