American Airlines Adds Cancun, Punta Cana, and More Destinations

American Airlines is expanding its global network, adding new routes to Cancun, Punta Cana, Hawaii, South America, and Europe while also strengthening its domestic flight offerings. These additions, set to launch later this year, will give travelers more options for winter getaways—whether they prefer beach escapes, ski trips, or cultural adventures abroad.

New Nonstop Flights to Cancun and Punta Cana

Starting November 8, American Airlines will become the first airline to offer international service from Oklahoma City (OKC) with direct flights to Cancun, Mexico (CUN). This move strengthens American’s position as the leading airline serving Cancun, with over 40 peak-day flights from 19 different cities.

On December 6, American will also introduce four new routes to Punta Cana (PUJ), further expanding its footprint in the Caribbean. This winter, the airline will operate more than 20 peak-day departures from Punta Cana to 11 U.S. cities, making it easier for travelers to reach this tropical paradise.

More Flights to Hawaii and South America

In time for Thanksgiving travel, American Airlines is resuming direct flights from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Kona (KOA) and increasing service to Kahului (OGG). With these additions, the airline will operate over 15 daily flights between the continental U.S. and Hawaii, offering more flexibility for travelers heading to the islands.

For those traveling to South America, American is boosting its Miami (MIA) to Buenos Aires (EZE) service, offering up to four daily flights between December and January—its highest frequency ever on this route. Additionally, flights between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and São Paulo (GRU) will increase by over 40% compared to last winter, providing more connectivity between North and South America.

Extended Seasonal Flights to Europe

Travelers seeking European adventures in the off-season will benefit from extended seasonal service to Athens (ATH), Barcelona (BCN), and Dublin (DUB). These routes, which typically operate only during peak summer months, will now be available for longer, making it easier to explore these vibrant destinations beyond the high season.

New Domestic Routes and Ski Getaways

American Airlines is also strengthening its domestic network, adding new flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Des Moines (DSM) and from Phoenix (PHX) to Little Rock (LIT) starting October 6.

For winter sports enthusiasts, American is launching its first-ever nonstop flight from Charlotte (CLT) to Aspen (ASE) on December 19, just in time for ski season.

With more flights, more destinations, and greater flexibility, American Airlines is making winter travel easier and more convenient than ever before.
