American Airlines is memorably marking Frequent Flyer Day by giving 100,000 AAdvantage miles to the first baby born on May 1, 2025. This special celebration honors the airline’s most loyal customers and celebrates the 44th anniversary of the AAdvantage programme, the world’s first frequent flyer program created by a mainline carrier.
The AAdvantage programme, launched on May 1, 1981, has grown to include millions of members worldwide who earn miles while flying, shopping, and booking travel. Now, the airline is welcoming its youngest member yet.
Scott Long, American’s senior vice president of AAdvantage, said:
“Before even taking their first step, the first baby born on Frequent Flyer Day is ready to travel the world with the gift of 100,000 AAdvantage® miles. We are excited to expand our AAdvantage family with the addition of this little one into our programme as we celebrate the millions of members making a lifetime of family memories with American across the world.”
This one-of-a-kind giveaway is part of the airline’s effort to grow the AAdvantage community and encourage families to start collecting miles early. Parents and legal guardians can sign up their children for the AAdvantage programme online. Once enrolled, kids can begin earning miles on every family trip, which can later be redeemed for flights and other travel benefits.
To take part in the promotion, parents whose child is born on May 1, 2025, must share a photo of the newborn on X/Twitter, include the exact time of birth (with time zone), and tag @AmericanAir using the hashtags #AAdvantage, #FrequentFlyerDay, and #promotion. The baby with the earliest verified time of birth on that date will win the prize.
Since the 2025 qualification year began on March 1, millions of AAdvantage members have started unlocking more benefits as they work toward status and rewards. The programme has evolved over time to provide members with extra ways to earn and redeem miles—not just through flying, but through dining, shopping, and credit card spending as well.
As one of the longest-running loyalty programmes in the airline industry, AAdvantage continues to offer members the chance to enjoy more value before, during, and after their trips. Travellers can sign up for free to start earning miles toward exciting travel rewards.
