LOT Gets 5.7 Million Zlotys To Keep Warsaw Ostrava Flights

The Moravian-Silesian regional government in the Czech Republic has approved additional financial support for LOT Polish Airlines to continue operating flights between Warsaw and Ostrava through November 2026.

The new subsidy agreement is valued at more than 33 million Czech crowns, equivalent to approximately PLN 5.7 million.

Support Extends Warsaw-Ostrava Route

The agreement extends cooperation between LOT Polish Airlines and the Moravian-Silesian Region beyond the airline’s previously scheduled operations, which had been expected to end in March 2026.

Under the new arrangement, flights between Warsaw and Ostrava will continue until at least mid-November 2026.

The route currently operates five times per week.

Regional Authorities Continue Long-Term Partnership

The Warsaw-Ostrava connection has relied on cooperation between LOT and the regional government since the route was first introduced.

LOT initially launched the service in autumn 2020 following years of efforts by local authorities to attract a regular network carrier to Ostrava Airport.

The route briefly faced disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming operations in March 2022.

Promotion Campaign Included In Agreement

As part of the latest deal, LOT will carry out an extensive international marketing campaign promoting the Moravian-Silesian Region.

The campaign will include advertising on LOT’s website, promotional content within the airline’s Dreamliner in-flight entertainment system, social media campaigns and special branding on two Embraer aircraft.

The liveries will promote the Moravian-Silesian region internationally.

Target Markets Include United States And South Korea

The promotional campaign will focus on several international markets including Poland, the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

Authorities hope the initiative will increase international awareness of the region while also supporting passenger demand on the Warsaw-Ostrava route.

Flights Feed Into LOT’s Global Network

The Ostrava service primarily functions as a feeder route into LOT’s hub at Warsaw Chopin Airport.

Passengers from northeastern Czechia gain access to LOT’s wider European, North American and Asian network, including flights operated by Star Alliance partners.

Authorities View Route As Strategically Important

Regional officials said continued financial support reflects the strategic value of maintaining direct air connectivity between Ostrava and Warsaw.

According to regional deputy mayor Radek Podstawka, increasing passenger loads and improving international visibility could eventually help create commercial conditions allowing the route to continue without subsidies in the future.
