Direct flights between Nizhny Novgorod and Belgrade officially launched on May 19, opening a new air connection between Russia and Serbia as Air Serbia continues expanding its regional network.
The new route will operate twice weekly and marks another step in strengthening economic, tourism and cultural ties between Serbia and Russia.
New Direct Connection Between Russia And Serbia
According to regional officials, Air Serbia will operate flights between Belgrade and Nizhny Novgorod every Tuesday and Friday.
The journey time is expected to take less than four hours, offering passengers a direct alternative to connecting routes through other international hubs.
Nizhny Novgorod has now become the fifth Russian city served by Air Serbia.
Growing Demand For Regional International Routes
The launch reflects increasing demand for direct international connections between regional Russian cities and destinations that remain accessible for both tourism and business travel.
Belgrade has become an increasingly important aviation gateway for Russian travellers in recent years due to Serbia’s strong air connectivity and visa policies.
The Serbian capital also continues attracting growing numbers of tourists, business travellers and transit passengers travelling onward to Europe and the Balkans.
Economic And Cultural Cooperation Expands
Regional authorities described Serbia as one of Nizhny Novgorod’s key international partners.
Officials said cooperation between the region and Serbia continues developing across sectors including industry, information technology, education and investment.
New business initiatives, university partnerships and commercial projects are also reportedly under discussion as connectivity between the two regions improves.
Tourism And Pilgrimage Travel Expected To Grow
Authorities believe the new route has strong potential not only for business travel but also for tourism, cultural exchange and religious pilgrimage journeys.
Serbia remains a popular destination for Russian travellers due to cultural ties, Orthodox Christian heritage and relatively straightforward travel access.
The direct flights are also expected to benefit Serbian visitors travelling to Russia for business, academic and cultural programmes.
Air Serbia Continues Network Expansion
Air Serbia has steadily expanded its international route network in recent years, strengthening its position as one of the Balkans’ leading carriers.
The airline has focused on increasing connectivity between Belgrade and destinations across Europe, the Middle East and parts of Russia.
For Nizhny Novgorod, the new route represents another effort to improve international accessibility and position the city more strongly within regional travel and business markets.
As international travel demand continues recovering, airlines are increasingly targeting underserved regional routes where direct connectivity can stimulate both tourism and economic cooperation.
