Katowice Airport is seeking to strengthen its position within Poland’s aviation sector, with airport president Artur Tomasik outlining ambitions for the airport to become the country’s second major air hub.
Speaking about the airport’s future outlook, Tomasik said Poland is currently benefiting from growing international attention and favourable market conditions, particularly for Pyrzowice, the area where Katowice Airport is located.
Airport Leadership Signals National Ambitions
“From the point of view of Europe, or Poland in general, we are becoming a very attractive country and we have our five minutes of fame, especially Pyrzowice,” Tomasik said.
The comments reflect the airport’s intention to expand its national importance as Poland’s air travel market continues to grow.
Katowice Airport has long operated as one of the country’s key regional airports, handling both scheduled and charter services, particularly for leisure travel.
Competition Growing Across Poland
Poland’s aviation market has expanded rapidly in recent years, with regional airports increasingly competing for passengers, airline partnerships and international route development.
Outside Warsaw, airports have focused on attracting both tourism traffic and business travel while increasing connectivity to European and international destinations.
Katowice Airport serves one of Poland’s largest urban and industrial regions in the south of the country, giving it a strong base for both outbound leisure demand and commercial travel.
Focus On Long-Term Growth
The latest comments from airport management suggest Katowice now aims to translate its strong regional position into broader national recognition.
As competition intensifies between Poland’s airports, the challenge for Katowice will be sustaining passenger growth, attracting additional airline investment and expanding its route network.
For now, the airport’s leadership has made its objective clear: positioning Katowice Airport as Poland’s second airport in terms of national significance and market influence.
