Air Seychelles is introducing a new international route linking the islands with Istanbul, as the carrier adapts to shifting travel patterns and works to sustain inbound tourism.
The temporary service will operate twice weekly between May 2 and June 27, with flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The route will be served by a leased Airbus A330-300, offering 249 seats and long-haul comfort for passengers traveling between the Indian Ocean and Europe.
A strategic response to changing travel flows
The launch comes at a time when traditional transit routes through the Gulf are facing disruption, prompting airlines and destinations to seek alternative gateways.
By connecting Seychelles directly with Istanbul, Air Seychelles is opening a new corridor that links the destination with one of the world’s most important aviation hubs. Through a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, passengers will be able to access a wide network of onward connections across Europe and beyond.
The schedule is designed to optimize convenience, with overnight flights allowing travelers to arrive in Seychelles in the morning, ready to begin their stay.
Strengthening Europe connectivity via Istanbul
Istanbul’s geographic position between Europe and Asia makes it a natural hub for connecting long-haul routes.
From Istanbul Airport, passengers can easily connect to major European cities, offering an alternative to routes that have traditionally relied on Gulf carriers.
The new service is expected to play a key role in maintaining visitor flows to Seychelles, particularly from European markets that remain critical to the destination’s tourism economy.
Two destinations, two distinct travel experiences
The route also highlights the contrast between two globally recognized destinations.
Istanbul offers a rich mix of history and modern life, from landmarks such as Hagia Sophia to the vibrant atmosphere of the Grand Bazaar.
In contrast, Seychelles continues to attract travelers with its natural beauty, including iconic sites like Anse Source d’Argent and the UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai.
Part of a broader network adjustment
The Istanbul launch forms part of a wider strategy by Air Seychelles to diversify its international network.
The airline has already extended its special service to Paris through the end of June and continues to operate flights to Rome through April, reinforcing its focus on maintaining strong European connectivity.
As global travel routes continue to shift in response to geopolitical and operational pressures, the new Istanbul connection positions Seychelles to remain accessible – while offering travelers more flexibility in how they reach one of the world’s most sought-after island destinations.
