Four Seasons has officially opened its newly reimagined Resort and Residences Puerto Rico, a project that transforms one of the island’s most scenic stretches of coastline into a new benchmark for Caribbean luxury. Surrounded by three nature reserves and set along two miles of palm-lined beach, the resort signals the brand’s deepening commitment to experiences shaped by nature, local stories and thoughtful design.
Located just a half-hour from San Juan’s airport, the 483-acre property blends protected forests, waterways, lakes and ecological sanctuaries into a retreat designed to immerse guests in Puerto Rico’s landscapes. Rainer Stampfer, Four Seasons President of Global Operations for Hotels and Resorts, calls the setting “exceptional” and describes the project as the newest jewel in the brand’s Caribbean portfolio, developed in partnership with Paulson Puerto Rico.
The resort reopens after a comprehensive refurbishment that touches nearly every part of the guest experience. All rooms and suites have been redesigned with a lighter palette and organic materials that echo the surrounding
environment. Casa Grande, the dramatic arrival space, now extends onto an oceanfront terrace, while the Lobby Lounge has been refreshed by design firm Meyer Davis. The update also brings new dining concepts, an expanded racquet centre and a series of programs focused on nature, conservation and cultural immersion.
General Manager Pablo Molinari says the goal is to deliver a resort that reflects Puerto Rico’s identity rather than simply hosting guests in it. He leads a team of more than 400 staff, many returning to the property in its new Four Seasons era. “Our hope is for guests to enjoy every moment on this beautiful island, and to leave with memories of its warmth, stories and culture,” he said.
One of the resort’s defining features is its access to protected wilderness. Guests can explore more than seven miles of hiking and cycling trails, kayak through canals, or join naturalists to observe more than fifty bird species and the leatherback turtles that nest along the beach each spring and summer. The property also maintains community education initiatives, an on-site animal sanctuary and a pet shelter, encouraging visitors to support local conservation efforts.
Culinary experiences carry a strong sense of place. Executive Chef Victor Rosado draws from Puerto Rican traditions shaped by his childhood and his work with chefs such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten and José Andrés. The resort’s ten dining and bar concepts include El Bembe, a lively lobby lounge known for its rum-forward cocktails and live music, and Paros, which blends Mediterranean cooking with Caribbean seafood and ingredients from the resort’s organic garden. Seagrapes offers open-air coastal dining, while a pop-up sushi bar, Turtle’s Nest and private beachfront dinners expand the options for guests.
Four Seasons also introduces curated walking and food tours in Old San Juan. With guides tailoring stories and stops to travellers’ interests, guests can visit landmarks such as El Morro, discover artisan shops and uncover neighbourhood favourites beyond the usual tourist routes. For those who want to explore farther, the concierge team curates visits to villages and beaches across the island, including Flamenco Beach in Culebra, one of Puerto Rico’s most photographed coastlines.
For active travellers, the resort is anchored by the Bahía Beach Golf Club, an Audubon International Silver Signature Sanctuary that features an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. course, practice facilities and expert caddies. The expanded Racquet Centre now includes tennis, pickleball and padel courts. At the Boat House, guests can launch kayaks and paddleboards onto the property’s lakes and canals or enjoy the inflatable waterpark. Watersports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing are available on the beach.
Those seeking quieter moments can relax by the two resort pools or stretch out along the broad, palm-shaded beach. The spa offers ten treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities, saunas, a steam room and a salon ideal for wedding parties.
Families have been placed at the centre of the design. The Tortuga Kids’ Club offers complimentary activities for children ages four to twelve, alongside splash areas, family-size cabanas, connecting rooms, children’s menus and babysitting options. For groups and extended stays, the resort’s Villa & Residential Rentals provide kitchens, ocean-view terraces, private pools and a dedicated Residence Host for tailored experiences.
To mark the grand opening, Four Seasons is offering a Bed and Breakfast experience, with additional festive season programming available for early winter travellers. Wedding couples and event planners can also explore the resort’s venues and planning services as the property positions itself as one of Puerto Rico’s most significant new luxury destinations.
