Poland Urges Citizens to Leave Belarus Amid Escalating Tensions

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a renewed travel warning to its citizens, advising against all travel to Belarus and calling on those currently in the country to leave immediately. The advisory was published by the Polish Embassy in Minsk on September 25.

The warning comes despite the partial restoration of border traffic between Poland and Belarus on the same day. At present, passenger travel is limited to the Terespol–Brest checkpoint, while freight transport is only possible via the Koroszczyn (Kukuryki)–Kozlovichi crossing.

According to the ministry, the decision reflects growing regional instability linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine, as well as repeated cases of Polish nationals being detained by Belarusian authorities. Officials cautioned that the security situation could worsen without warning, and that sudden border closures or other unforeseen developments could make evacuation extremely difficult—or even impossible.

In light of these risks, Polish authorities are urging citizens still in Belarus to depart without delay, using any available commercial or private means of transportation.
