Dubai-based low-cost carrier flydubai has taken delivery of seven new aircraft so far in 2025, with an additional five Boeing 737 MAX 8s scheduled to join its fleet before year-end. These additions are central to the airline’s strategic growth plans, enhancing operational efficiency, expanding capacity on existing routes, and opening access to new destinations.
With the new aircraft, flydubai’s fleet has grown to 93 planes, and once all 12 are delivered this year, the carrier will operate more than 95 aircraft, serving over 135 destinations across 57 countries. The expansion targets underserved markets and strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading global aviation hub.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “The arrival of these new aircraft is a testament to our long-term strategic vision and confidence in the future of air travel. These deliveries allow us to unlock new destinations, optimise operations, and offer greater choice and connectivity for our passengers.”
Financing and Fleet Investment
The seven aircraft received between April and August 2025 were financed through a combination of Islamic financing from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), conventional debt from The National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKBANK), and sale-and-leaseback arrangements with JP Lease Products & Services Co., Ltd (JLPS) and JLPS Ireland Limited.
Despite receiving 12 aircraft this year, flydubai remains 20 aircraft behind its original delivery projections, reflecting earlier delays caused by the global aviation environment.
Network Expansion
Alongside fleet growth, flydubai has added 11 new destinations in 2025, including seasonal summer routes to Antalya and Al Alamein, as well as Damascus and Peshawar. Upcoming European routes include Chișinău and Iași from September, and Vilnius and Riga from December, providing passengers with enhanced connectivity and travel options.
Customer Experience Upgrades
Since early 2024, 23 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s have undergone full cabin retrofits as part of flydubai’s multimillion-dollar programme. Upgrades include lie-flat seats in Business Class and advanced inflight entertainment in Economy, ensuring a consistent and high-quality travel experience across the fleet.
Investing in Talent
Flydubai has also grown its workforce to over 6,500 employees, a 10% increase compared to 2024, and launched the Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme (MPL) to train future pilots to support the airline’s expansion plans.
With these fleet and network enhancements, flydubai is positioning itself for continued growth, operational excellence, and a stronger role in Dubai’s international aviation landscape.
