El Al resumed flights to Moscow on May 1, marking the return of Israel’s national airline to the Russian capital after a four-month suspension. The airline had halted the route in late December following a regional security incident.

Flights are now scheduled seven times a week, with one daily departure from Monday to Wednesday and two flights on Thursday and Sunday. Operated by Boeing 737-900 aircraft, each plane accommodates 175 passengers.

From Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, flights take off at 14:50 and 20:50, while departures from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv are set for 08:00 and 13:55. For travelers, a round-trip ticket without checked baggage starts at 72,000 rubles per person.

El Al initially stopped flights to Moscow in December 2024, shortly after the downing of an Azerbaijani aircraft over Chechnya during a drone strike, which led to the deaths of 38 people. The airline cited security concerns at the time and decided to pause operations after assessing regional airspace risks.

The decision to restart the route came following “an evaluation of the current situation” and consultations with relevant authorities, according to the airline.

The resumed service is seen as a step toward reestablishing routine air travel between Israel and Russia, which has seen disruptions in recent months due to regional tensions. El Al’s return also reflects growing demand for direct flights between the two countries, both for business and tourism purposes.

In addition to El Al’s return, other international carriers are also restarting flights to Moscow this month. Turkmenistan Airlines resumed regular service to the Russian capital on May 2, and Vietnam Airlines is scheduled to follow suit on May 8.
