El Al Partners With SpaceX To Bring Free In-Flight Internet To Passengers

El Al has announced plans to introduce free high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi across its fleet through a new partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network, marking a major upgrade to the airline’s onboard passenger experience.

The rollout is scheduled to begin next year and will provide travelers with fast and reliable internet access throughout their journey. The move comes as competition on routes to and from Tel Aviv is expected to intensify with the gradual return of several international carriers to the Israeli market.

By adopting Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite technology, El Al aims to deliver connectivity levels comparable to those available on the ground, allowing passengers to stay connected for work, communication and entertainment while in the air.

Timing Coincides With Renewed Market Competition

The announcement comes as international competition on routes serving Tel Aviv is expected to increase. Several U.S. and international carriers are preparing to expand or restore services to Israel, creating a more competitive environment for airlines operating in the market.

Enhanced onboard services, including premium connectivity, are likely to play an increasingly important role as airlines seek to differentiate their products and improve customer loyalty.

For El Al, the Starlink partnership represents both a technology upgrade and a strategic investment in customer experience as the carrier positions itself for the next phase of growth.

El Al Joins Growing Wave Of Airlines Adopting Starlink

El Al’s decision reflects a broader industry trend as airlines around the world race to upgrade onboard internet services. SpaceX’s Starlink has emerged as one of the fastest-growing providers of aviation connectivity, signing multiple airline customers in 2026 alone as carriers seek to offer passengers faster and more reliable internet access during flights.

Several major airlines have recently announced or expanded Starlink partnerships. American Airlines revealed plans in May 2026 to equip more than 500 narrowbody aircraft with Starlink beginning in 2027, joining a growing list of carriers investing in next-generation satellite connectivity.

Qatar Airways has been one of the most aggressive adopters of the technology, completing Starlink installation across its Airbus A350 fleet and becoming the first airline to equip Boeing 787-8 aircraft with the service. By early 2026, the carrier had connected nearly 120 widebody aircraft to the network.

Other airlines that have recently announced Starlink deployments include Air France, Lufthansa Group carriers, British Airways, Emirates, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, SAS and Korean Air, highlighting the growing importance of high-speed onboard connectivity across both long-haul and short-haul networks.

The rapid expansion has helped Starlink establish a leading position in the airline connectivity market. Industry analysts note that airlines increasingly view free, high-speed Wi-Fi as a key element of the passenger experience, particularly as competition for premium travelers intensifies.
